At least 15 persons were killed in Amman after a petrol tanker overturned and caught fire, trapping occupants inside their cars. "The death toll has now risen to 15 and 20 people were injured, including three little girls," a civil defence official on the scene said, according to press reports.
Most of the victims were burned beyond recognition. The death toll could still rise, the reports added.
The accident occured when a small petrol tanker overturned on a slope between the third circle area of Amman and the city center, at a traffic light, where dozens of cars were stopped. "At least 19 vehicles were engulfed by the blazed and charred," the civil defence official said.
