ALBAWABA - Following news of his intention to leave office, Spain’s Pedro Sanchez announced that he will remain in office as Prime Minister as peddling and corruption allegations shadow his wife Begona Gomez.
In a long-awaited press conference, Sanchez made the announcement, with the overwhelming support from thousands of demonstrators who camped outside the headquarters of Sanchez's Socialist party in Madrid on Saturday chanting "Pedro, stay!"
"I have decided to stay," he stated in a highly anticipated public statement that brought an end to the country's five-day period of political uncertainty.
"For too long we've let this filth corrupt our political and public life with toxic methods that were unimaginable just a few years ago... Do we really want this for Spain?" he asked.
"I have acted out of a clear conviction: either we say 'enough is enough' or this degradation of public life will define our future and condemn us as a country" Sanchez continued.
He was scheduled to launch his party's campaign for the Catalonia regional elections on May 12, in which his Socialists want to unseat pro-independence forces.
He stated his choice to stay was "decisively influenced" by the tremendous show of solidarity outside his Socialist party's headquarters in Madrid, when hundreds of impassioned fans chanted: "Pedro, stay!"
