Employees of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) have donated a sum of AED 400,000 for the purchase of relief equipments for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan earlier this month.
Mahmoud Saleh, Secretary General, The Corporate Office, led this initiative from the beginning and was responsible for coordinating the purchase and transfer of relief equipment along with Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City. The relief material including tents, hospital and surgical equipment, surgical tents, medical and surgical kits and water purification tablets were loaded on to trucks in the presence of Najeeb Durrani, Consul, Consulate General of Pakistan, Barbara Castek, CEO of Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City and Mahmoud Saleh. The equipments were transported to Abu Dhabi Airport from where it will be flown to Pakistan.
“We really appreciate this gesture from our employees who came forward to help victims of this tragedy that hit South Asia,” said Mahmoud Saleh. “In this Holy Month of Ramadan our staff have lived up to the spirit of Ramadan and shared in the grief and suffering of the people of Pakistan by donating money and offering moral support. The impact of the quake not only killed over 50,000 people, but also left several thousands injured and homeless. The extremely cold weather conditions in northern Pakistan have also hampered relief efforts, and there is a need for special equipments for these conditions.”
“We also thank the suppliers of these equipments for their support and cooperation in providing all the required material at very short notice. The dedicated efforts of Dubai Aid City and Dubai Humanitarian City in coordinating procurement, transport and delivery of the goods have certainly been praise worthy and we look forward to offering them all the possible assistance,” he added.
Expressing his gratitude, Najeeb Durrani, said, “I appreciate this noble gesture from PCFC, Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City, the private sector and all the suppliers for extending their support to help the people of Pakistan. The onset of winter has worsened the situation in the quake-affected area and I appeal to the international community to continue with their generous donations, as no amount of help is sufficient, considering the damage caused by the earthquake.”
"We highly appreciate this initiative of the PCFC staff and we hope that this will be an example for other organizations in Dubai to follow," said Barbara Castek. “Dubai Aid and Humanitarian City was established to coordinate between the various entities in the relief supply chain and facilitate efficient transactions between non-profit and commercial entities. We are amazed at the flexibility of the commercial sector of Dubai and the UAE to adapt its products to the needs of disaster victims and situations.”
