Palestinian President Yasser Arafat has not been harmed by two attacks that targeted sites adjacent to his headquarters in Gaza Monday and Ramallah on Tuesday, a PA minister said.
Hassan Asfour, Minister of NGOs, told Albawaba.com on Tuesday afternoon that Arafat’s spirits were high despite the attacks.
The minister added that the president was meeting with senior officials “to discuss the deteriorating situation that resulted from the Israeli bombardment.”
The ministry of interior’s headquarters in Ramallah were hit by an Israeli helicopter missile at noon Tuesday. The offices are Arafat’s headquarters’ next-door in the West Bank city.
On Monday afternoon, Arafat’s helicopter facilities were struck by Israeli missiles, where two choppers were completely destroyed.
Israel said that the blitzes were a signal to Arafat after a string of Hamas attacks killed 26 Israelis in two days.
Israeli top officials stressed that Israel has no intention to topple Arafat’s PA, and analysts were quoted in reports as saying the assaults were meant to humiliate the president, who is seen as a historic leader of the Palestinian people – Albawaba.com
