One person was killed and eight others injured when explosives used to make firecrackers blew up close to a cinema in central Tehran, state radio said Sunday.
It said the blast late Saturday also caused substantial damage and was still being investigated by police.
The accident comes just five days after the annual Feast of Fire celebrations on Tuesday evening which left at least 100 people injured in the capital.
During the annual event, which is rooted in ancient Zoroastrianism, people leap over fires to purify themselves ahead of the new Iranian year which begins on March 21, while many young people also hurl firecrackers in the streets.
The practice is viewed with disapproval by Iran's Islamic regime, and some 1,200 arrests were made – TEHRAN (AFP)
