Official Says Earthquake in Tehran very Probable

A big earthquake in Tehran is very likely, with the death toll predicted to be high, said Abbasali Tasnimi, deputy housing minister, cited by the official Iranian news agency (IRNA) on Sunday. 

The official, who is also head of the research center for housing and building, said that the data provided by the Geophysics Institute of the Tehran University indicates that light tremors are shaking the capital  

each day, adding that “the energy emitted from these quakes could build up, providing for a strong jolt in the near future."  

In 1990, 35,000 people were killed in an earthquake, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, which jolted northern Iran – Albawaba.com
