ALBAWABA - Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman from the US, said she was leaving her job on Friday. This was a big break in the Republican Party and the MAGA movement, just a week after President Donald Trump said he would no longer support her.

Greene, a well-known figure in far-right politics, said in a video she posted online that she had "never fit in" in Washington and had long felt "humiliated" there. She also said that she didn't want her family or supporters to go through what she called a "bitter, hateful primary" run by the same president she used to support.

The Republican from Georgia, who was elected in 2020, said that January 5, 2026, will be her last day in office.

She quit after a very public and harsh break with Trump. Earlier this month, the former president took back his support and then used his platform Truth Social to attack Greene, calling her "lightweight" and even a "traitor" to the GOP. Greene later said that she had gotten threats after Trump made his comments.

She said she was being attacked for speaking out for American women who were raped or trafficked by "wealthy and powerful men" when they were 14. She said that the president she used to support should not criticize her for speaking out like this.

Greene's leaving is the most obvious sign yet of growing divisions within the MAGA movement, which has been shaken by recent Democratic wins in elections and by Trump's changing position on the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Last week, the controversy got worse when Trump signed a bill that required all Epstein-related files to be made public. Epstein, a billionaire financier with connections to powerful Americans, was found dead in his jail cell while waiting for his trial on charges of running a sex-trafficking ring that involved girls under the age of 18.

On the same day, Larry Summers, who used to be the Secretary of the Treasury, stepped down from the board of OpenAI after Congress made public emails showing that he and Epstein had a lot of conversations.

Greene's resignation has sparked even more debate among Republicans about where the party should go in the future and how much power Trump really has.
