A Nigerian university has expelled 28 students for their alleged membership of a campus secret cult and for examination malpractices, ThisDay newspaper reported Thursday.
Authorities of University of Ilorin in central Kwara State expelled 11 students found guilty of belonging to a campus secret cult.
Seventeen others were sent away for examination malpractices, said the newspaper which published the names of all the affected students.
Those expelled for campus cult activities were found guilty of the charge by a student disciplinary committee which met on September 19.
Secret campus cults are notorious for murder, assault, harassment and rape.
More than 3,000 students have been expelled in Nigerian tertiary academic institutions since last year either for cult activities, poor performance, examination malpractices or fraud -- LAGOS (AFP)
