ALBAWABA- A powerful explosion was heard Sunday in the northwestern Syrian city of Aleppo, sparking confusion and concern among residents as authorities investigate the cause.
The explosion heard in Aleppo Governorate was caused by the army’s engineering units detonating remnants of war west of the city.
Local sources reported hearing the blast in Aleppo’s western countryside, though its origin remains unclear. Some outlets suggested the blast may have been linked to training exercises by internal security forces (SDF), but no official confirmation has been issued.
Explosions are not uncommon in Syrian cities, where they often stem from Israeli airstrikes, leftover war munitions, or clashes between rival groups.
Just last week, Israel carried out a series of intensified air and ground raids near Damascus and along the Golan Heights buffer zone, targeting Syrian military positions.
Similar incidents have also been reported in Suwaida, where inter-group fighting has triggered deadly blasts.
