The biggest project of its kind, the water network of the Omani capital is 80 percent complete after work began in March following complaints of faults in the system, reported Oman observer on Sunday.

The plan involves overhauling around 10,000 house connections, along with significant stretches of the city's water distribution system.

Initiated in March last year, the rehabilitation program will solve to a significant extent the problem of underground transmission leaks generally associated with water distribution networks. Furthermore, old, corroded and damaged pipes will make way for new ductile iron and medium density polyethylene pipes (MDPE) as part of an effort to upgrade the efficiency of Muscat's water network, said the paper – Albawaba.com
