Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has ordered the ministry of health “to place all its facilities at the disposal of the Sudanese people,” with the focus on humanitarian aid.

Press reports said Friday that Egyptian Minister of Health Ismail Salam met with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail, who briefed his host on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, where more than 40,00 southerners have fled the war to the north.

Clashes between the Khartoum government forces and southern rebels have flared up again lately after a failed meeting between Sudanese President Omar Bashir and John Garang, leader of the Sudan Popular Liberation Army (SPLA).
