A Kuwaiti mother and her four daughters were crushed to death when their car hit a bus parked on a dark street, newspapers reported on Wednesday.
A fifth daughter and a son were admitted to hospital in critical condition, Al-Rai Al-Aam daily said.
The mother, Eiman Hamad al-Ansari, 35, was driving in a new suburb, 15 kilometers (10 miles) south of Kuwait City, where street lights are not yet installed.
Kuwait's hair-raising motorways claimed 333 lives in 1999 to bring total deaths on Kuwait's roads over the last three years to some 1,027 people.
Kuwaiti nationals account for just 812,000 of the population, while expatriate workers, the vast majority of whom do not own a car, total 1.4 million.
There were 755,000 cars registered in Kuwait in 1999, some 50,000 more than the previous year.
The interior ministry has reported that around 2,000 children have been maimed over the past six years in traffic accidents in the oil-rich Gulf emirate - KUWAIT CITY (AFP)
