Jordan's Minister of Education, Minister of Higher Education and President of the Jordanian National Committee for Education, Culture and Science Dr. Khaled Touqan said, in comments published Wednesday by Petra, that Jordan seeks to strengthen "bases of democracy, freedom, equity and human rights and to protect national, Arab and Islamic standards."
In a speech in the 33rd session of the UNESCO Conference in Paris, Dr. Touqan pointed that King Abdullah's letter to the Jordanian students, on the start of their new scholastic year, stressed the need to improve the process of education. He also highlighted the Jordanian accomplishments in the field of education as it reduced the rate illiteracy to %9 in 2005.
