ALBAWABA - According to local police, seven policemen were abducted from a check post on Monday in Pakistan’s northwestern district of Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least 8 people during the attack.
The attack took place in Khyber, a violent border district in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and targeted soldiers returning to their camp following a counterinsurgency operation.
At least three soldiers suffered injuries in the attack, with one in "serious" condition, according to several security authorities. The Pakistani military's propaganda wing did not immediately respond to the lethal attack or the alleged casualties that followed.
District Police Officer (DPO) Zia Uddin told Arab News that up to 40 men took part in the orchestrated attack and "abducted seven police personnel from the Rocha checkpoint in the jurisdiction of Utmanzai Police Station in Bannu district,".
Separately, scores of heavily armed men raided a security post in the province's militancy-plagued Bannu area Monday evening, kidnapping seven armed police officers. Police officers in the area indicated that an operation to locate the assailants and rescue the abducted people was underway.
According to figures from Islamabad's independent Center for Research and Security Studies, militant violence has killed over 1,100 Pakistani security forces and civilians this year.
