ALBAWABA- A massive power outage has plunged much of Spain into darkness, affecting major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Granada, along with key infrastructure such as Barajas Airport.

The blackout, which began after 12:30 CET, also impacted parts of neighboring Portugal, Andorra, and southwestern France.

Millions are without power as the electricity supply is disrupted across the country, including airports, train services, and mobile networks.

Spain's grid operators, REE and REN, are working to restore service while investigating the cause of the outage. Although the exact reason remains unclear, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a cyberattack.

As the massive blackout continues, the Andalusian government has activated its Civil Protection emergency plan, urging residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has rushed to the Red Eléctrica Control Center, while Catalonia’s leader, Salvador Illa, convened an emergency crisis meeting in Barcelona.

Millions across Spain and Portugal remain affected by widespread power cuts, frozen airports, and halted train services, as authorities scramble to determine whether the outage was caused by a grid failure or a cyberattack.

While power is gradually being restored in some areas, widespread disruptions and uncertainty persist.
