A very strong earthquake rocked Mexico City and the country's Pacific coast late Tuesday, sending panicked residents into capital streets and cutting power in large parts of the city.
The national seismological service said the 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck at 8:07 p.m. (local time) on the coast of Colima, a small state which includes the port city of Manzanillo, some 300 miles west of Mexico City, according to AP.
At least 19 people were killed in the earthquake, Fernando Moreno Pena, governor of Colima, was quoted as saying by CNN.
National civil defense chief Carmen Segura told local news media that there were no immediate reports of damage in Colima or the neighboring state of Jalisco.
In the Jalisco state capital of Guadalajara, Mexico's second-largest city, doctors treated dozens of people for panic, but there were no reports of physical injuries. (Albawaba.com)
