LibanCell and the National Bank of Kuwait-Lebanon (NBK) introduced a new "cell-banking" service on Friday that will allow the bank's customers to conduct various transactions over their mobile phones, reported the Daily Star newspaper.

A LibanCell subscriber who has an account at NBK can conduct real-time mobile banking transactions using his or her phone, said the daily.

NBK will also relay messages to all subscribers who have an account with the bank, although they will initially be unable to do banking transactions.

The new service will be free for the first six months, after which the bank will start charging between $1-$2 per month, added the daily.

LibanCell said it would enforce tight security measures for all banking transactions carried out via its network.

Other banks may hook up with LibanCell to offer online banking services, the Daily Star said -- Albawaba.com
