An attempted arrest went fatally wrong Friday when a member of a counterfeiting gang blew himself up in Lebanon with a hand grenade, mortally wounding one Internal Security Forces officer and injuring five others, The Daily Satr reported Saturday.
Abu Ali Haytham was killed instantly when he detonated a grenade he was holding outside the St. George Hospital in Hadath, the daily said.
First Adjutant Wassim Abboud was critically wounded in the blast and was admitted to hospital with five of his colleagues. Abboud later died of his wounds, it added.
The paper quoted the official statement as saying that a patrol from the ISF’s office for combating financial crime was pursuing a money counterfeiting gang.
The office had been tracking the gang for some time, which was suspected of operating in the southern Metn – Albawaba.com
