The Lebanese cabinet may delay the debate on a draft telecommunications law for another two to three months, an official said, cited by the Daily Star newspaper.
The cabinet has set up a seven-minister committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Issam Fares to examine the draft, which seeks to liberalize the telecommunications sector in preparation for privatization, said the paper.
According to the paper, an official said “an even longer delay is expected in Parliament and it is expected that the law will be delayed until at least the end of the year.
A source close to the negotiations also said that the law was likely to be heavily amended, because many ministers and MPs have personal business interests that could be affected by any changes in the current laws applying to the telecommunications sector – Albawaba.com
