Kuwait and Iran described their ties on Saturday as "excellent" and would witness remarkable boost in near future.
Visiting Kuwaiti minister of state for foreign affairs Sheikh Mohammad al-Sabah was talking after his talks with Iran’s foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi, which he described as "constructive."
He was quoted by the Kuwaiti official news agency (KUNA) that he discussed with Kharazi "an array of political issues related to the security of the region, Afghanistan and the Middle East conflict. "We listened to important and valuable Iranian proposals and ideas, and we are looking forward for a bright future between both countries," Sheikh Mohammad told the agency.
The Kuwaiti minister, who arrived in Tehran last night, is on a three-day visit to Tehran. He was due to meet President Mohammad Khatami later Saturday, as well as Parliament Speaker Mehdi Karroubi on Sunday.
"We have discussed several bilateral ties including the economic ties between Kuwait and Tehran, means of cementing cooperation in cultural field, technological and scientific exchange. We have also talked about importing water and gas from Iran," said Sheikh Mohammad.
Kharrazi termed the meeting as "excellent" and that they affirmed necessity of regional cooperation. Speaking to Kuna, Kharrazi emphasized that Iran was ready to help solve the plight of the Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraq.” Kuwait says that more than 600 nationals have been detained by Iraq since its invasion of the neighboring country in 1990. "We are suffering from the same problem with Iran and I believe that exchanging expertise and information will help address this humanitarian issue, " said Kharrazi. "We have discussed major bilateral issues, among which are political, economic, cultural and security," said the Iranian minister. (Albawaba.com)
