Kuwait has conveyed to Western contractors that it is in no hurry to purchase an expensive defense system, the C4I project, which is estimated to cost US$1.2 billion, said Middle East Newsline (MENL).
Arab defense sources were quoted by the news service as saying “Kuwait has signaled to contractors that Kuwait will not complete plans to procure large-scale weapons over the next year.”
The sources said Kuwait was reviewing current procurement plans and their cost.
One such project is the procurement of a Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence system for the emirate.
According to MENL, the C4I project bears a US$1.2 billion price tag, and sources said Kuwait was expected to reopen the competition among US and European contractors, noting that the project appears too similar to a region-wide C4I project implemented by the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council – Albawaba.com
