The Iranian President Mohammad Khatami's office reiterated Saturday that the interior ministry would carry on with its task to arrange the parliamentary election on February 20 as scheduled.

The announcement put an end to the speculation that other organs might intervene to hold the election, which has been marked by a political crisis over large-scale disqualification of the aspirants.

The daily Jomhuriye Eslami on Saturday quoted "informed quarters" as saying that "in case executive officials in charge with the Majlis election do not announce their readiness for holding the poll by today, certain measures will be taken to turn over the task to other organs."

President Khatami's office stressed that "the election will be held at the scheduled time by the interior ministry and all the government colleagues across the country."
