Libyan leader Muammar Kadhafi read out on a TV program Tuesday the final statement of the “coming” Arab Summit.
He said that he and all the Arab leaders have received in advance a copy of the statement that outlines the Arab position on the violence on Palestine and the Israeli hostilities against the Palestinians.
Kadahfi was hosted live on the air from Libya by “The Counter Direction” program broadcaster by Al Jazira satellite channel.
He said that, in his view, the United States wants the summit to be held in order to ratify the decisions taken at this week's Israeli-Palestinian summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, and which he said was aimed at "aborting" the Palestinian uprising, according to AFP.
"I feel sorry for them," Kadhafi said, referring to his fellow Arab heads of state.
"I want to save my brothers ... from the situation they have got themselves into. I have asked them to give up this summit to save face. I want to save them from the wrath of the masses, who will turn on them because, with this extraordinary summit, they will be throwing oil on the fire."
Kadhafi said he did not want to attack his fellow Arab leaders, but that it did not make any sense to prepare the final declaration before the summit was even held, said AFP.
One good point in the draft, he said, was a proposal to seek international legal action against "certain Israeli leaders," among which he said was included Ariel Sharon, hawkish leader of Israel's right-wing Likud opposition party.
"That is a good thing," he said, adding a challenge to the Arab leaders to "issue arrest warrants for Sharon.” – (Several Sources)
