ALBAWABA - The internet has gone crazy over a yellow trash plastic bag, with influencers, fashion designers, and models imitating the new trend.

In the past few hours, social media platforms were abuzz after a video that sparked widespread controversy, showing the owner of a luxury goods store in Turkey displaying a "bag" that looks exactly like a yellow plastic garbage bag, which is becoming a trend across the globe.

The video, which garnered millions of views, depicts the man displaying the bag carefully as if it were an expensive, ancient item, while wearing white gloves.

How much does the yellow plastic bag cost?

The Turkish man claimed the bag is the latest design from the luxury fashion house Balenciaga and that it costs $1,790, igniting a global debate about the absurdity of fashion.

As criticism and sarcastic comments mounted, it became clear that the clip wasn't a genuine advertisement, but rather part of a satirical video series produced by an Instagram page called "Galata Luxury SAAD."

The person in the video used an ordinary plastic garbage bag to mimic a famous Balenciaga handbag, aiming to mock the transformation of discarded items into luxury pieces.

How did the yellow plastic bag trend begin?

The trend began when Chinese actress Zhang Jingyi appeared on the red carpet at the Beijing International Film Festival in March 2026, holding a yellow plastic bag and sparking controversy online.

At that time, the actress, nicknamed the "Princess of the Silver Screen," stole the show not with her elegant black dress, but with a bizarre accessory on her hand that resembled a household trash bag, leading observers to immediately draw a connection between her look and Balenciaga's controversial designs.

The truth is that Balenciaga had already released a collection called "Trash Pouch." This bag, designed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, is not made of plastic as some might think, but rather of luxurious calfskin treated with a glossy, wrinkled finish that gives it the appearance of a "trash bag."
