Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani was reported to have visited Israel over the weekend to deliver an official invitation to attend the October World Trade Organization meeting in Doha.
Israeli radio reported the unannounced visit, quoting Arab sources.
Other reports said that Thani, who left on Saturday, was accompanied by his two sons, who remained in Israel for a tour escorted by an unidentified Arab businessman and Israeli security guards, according to Aroob.com.
The official Palestinian website quoted sources as saying that an Israeli Foreign Ministry official was aboard the top Qatari diplomat’s private plane on his way back to Doha.
Qatar has been criticized for maintaining relations with Israel, but Arab countries have agreed to join the WTO meeting despite Israel’s presence – Albawaba.com
