ALBAWABA - The health ministry in Lebanon confirmed that at least two people were killed and 31 others were injured as residents of the south are attempting to return home amid the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.
It said that Israeli armed forces opened fire on Sunday targeting residents of southern Lebanon who wanted to return to their villages.
In an initial statement, the ministry said: "The aggression of the Israeli enemy against citizens who were trying to return to their villages has left one dead and nine wounded in Houla, and eight others injured in Kfar Kila."
Despite the temporary ceasefire deal between Hezbollah and Tel Aviv, the Israeli army is still taking position in southern Lebanon and has not withdrawn as agreed taking into consideration that the ceasefire agreement is about to end on Jan. 29.
Last November, a 60-day agreement between Hezbollah and Israel was approved, which was brokered by the US and France to end 14 months of conflict, it included the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon and the removal of Hezbollah fighters and weapons from there.
According to the BBC, the offensive between Israel and Hezbollah killed around 4,000 people in Lebanon and caused the forced displacement of over 1.2 million residents.
