Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas warned that the Israeli five-day Nablus operation could endanger the calm that has been in effect for a year, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported. "Such acts will only lead to more deterioration and endanger the efforts exerted to maintain the current calm," Abas said in his statement.

The comments came before the news that Israel killed two Palestinians in Gaza Strip early Friday. The victims were identified as Suleiman Hassan al Humeidi, 22 and Muhammad Ahmed Dukhan, 21. On Thursday, five Palestinians were killed in the Nablush operation.

Both Abbas and Prime Minister-designate Ismail Haniyeh condemned the operation, and Haniyeh urged the international community to stop the Israeli "massacre."

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources in Gaza said one man was killed and four nothers were injured in an explosion east of Gaza City. The blast occurred while the men were reportedly preparing an explosive device. The killed man has been identified as Muhammad Abdalmu'tie Abu Deif, 27.
