ALBAWABA - In blatant defiance of the ceasefire deal announced on November 27, Israeli soldiers have intensified their military operations in southern Lebanon, focusing on residential areas. Several houses and structures in the town of Al-Khiam were demolished, according to RT's correspondent.
The bombardment has continued since sunrise, according to Lebanese media, with the most recent attacks resulting in huge explosions close to the main mosque in Al-Khiam. There were thick smoke plumes visible rising from the region.
The truce was further broken when Israeli artillery struck the Al-Mari plain in southern Lebanon. There have been reports of continuous home devastation in Yaroun, Tair Harfa, Meiss El Jabal, and Kfar Kila, among other impacted areas. There have been reports of road closures and bulldozing in Aytaroun and Al-Khiam. From Friday night into Saturday morning, there were also reports of artillery fire between Rachaya and the Al-Mari plain, as well as a drone explosion in Majdal Zoun.
In the days preceding the truce, a neighboring Israeli airstrike damaged a residential structure in Beirut's Al-Abyad district, causing it to collapse. Neighboring buildings were also damaged in the attack, raising concerns about more collapses.
Along with many bombings on southern and eastern Lebanon, Israeli forces also carried out extensive machine-gun sweeps in different regions. The tenuous ceasefire deal with Hezbollah is further threatened by these activities, which represent a major escalation.
Concern about the worsening situation has grown among Lebanese politicians and citizens, who have called for international engagement to stop the crimes and safeguard civilians.
