Iridian Technologies and its Jordanian partner IdealSoft on Tuesday launched their brand of iris recognition technology as an alternative to PIN codes passwords or physical documentation access tools, said the Jordan Times.
The new technology comes to replace the traditional technology of identification and accessing personal information, records and bank accounts.
The president and CEO of the Swiss-based Iridian Technologies, Thomas Ernst, was quoted by the daily as saying that Iris technology recognized the individual detail of a live human iris within two seconds. Iris recognition works through “hybrid digital cameras which cause no damage to the eye, process individuals quickly and without physical contact.”
According to Ernst, the uses of the technology are varied, the paper said.
The system utilizes a 512 byte Iris Code managed and stored by IdealSoft's newly-developed Iris Farm Architecture (IFA) and can be used to keep track of prisoners and screen people at international borders to insure that unauthorized people are not allowed entry.
The system, said Ernst, is nearly foolproof, because each human iris is individual in its “imprint” and is not subject to change, and thus the technology is not fooled by reproduced images of the iris, no matter how sophisticated they might be, it added.
According to Ernst, the iris recognition system is able to provide greater levels of privacy by eliminatng the possibility of falsifying documents or using PIN codes, credit card numbers, passports and other documentation illegally, said the paper – Albawaba.com
