Hassan and Hussain, Iraqi twins aged two-months-old, were successfully separated in the course of a delicate surgery performed by doctors at the Dubai Hospital on Monday.

The head of the pediatric department at the Hospital told Gulf News daily that the twin boys shared the urinary system, but their kidneys were not conjoined. The babies are being monitored at the Intensive Care Unit at Dubai Hospital.

A source said doctors from the Department of Health and Medical Services performed the surgery, which he said was rare in the Middle East and the Gulf.

The twins were brought to Dubai at the personal expense of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and United Arab Emirates Defense Minister, when Iraqi doctors told the parents that they neither had the equipment nor the expertise to perform the surgery. (Albawaba.com)
