A U.S. soldier was missing Friday, a day after a suicide truck bombing killed two soldiers and injured another 30 west of Baghdad, U.S. military officials said. The soldier "has been reported as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown," the military said, according to the AP.
The attack occurred Thursday, when a truck driven by a suicide bomber exploded near an Iraqi power substation about 12 miles west of Baghdad, in an area where the U.S. troops were. The troops had been guarding the power substation, U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Barry Johnson said.
Of those wounded in the attack, one was listed as very seriously injured and one as seriously injured, the military statement said.
Meanwhile, over 100 bullet-riddled bodies have been recovered from the streets of Baghdad over the past three days, officials said.
In the past three days, security forces have collected bodies of more than 100 people died, the epicentre of which is Baghdad. US and Iraqi security officials say most were shot dead execution-style with bullet to their heads and many showed signs of torture.
Interior ministry spokesman Brigadier General Abdel Karim Khalaf told AFP that 51 bodies had been recovered in Baghdad in the past 24 hours. He said some of them had been killed in "criminal activities."
On Thursday, police reported finding 20 corpses and on Wednesday 64 bodies were registered by the capital's morgues.
