ALBAWABA - Chinese AI firm DeepSeek has struck a blow for the AI space with a permanent 75% discount on its flagship V4-Pro product. It is likely to add fuel to the fire of the current price war among AI suppliers.
The company said the special pricing, that had been offered as a limited time deal, is now a permanent price. This means the V4-Pro model will now cost only a fraction of its initial price, greatly reducing costs for developers and businesses using the platform.
Under the new pricing, DeepSeek’s API fees would range from 0.025 yuan to 6 yuan per million tokens, depending on the type of usage. The previous price was 0.1 yuan to 24 yuan for every million tokens. This is one of the most violent price movements in the AI market this year.
DeepSeek did not give explanations for the permanent drop, but industry watchers assume that the greater availability of Huawei’s Ascend 950 AI processors would have helped reduce operational expenses and increase computing capacity.
The ruling underscores the rising significance of Huawei’s semiconductor ecosystem as Chinese IT firms look for alternatives to Western gear. Local suppliers are able to grab market share in China since the U.S. export limitations on NVIDIA's most powerful AI chips remain in place.
When DeepSeek launched the V4 family last month, the company said the premium V4-Pro version was far more costly to run than the lighter Flash model due to limits with sophisticated computational resources. Executives said at the time they expected costs to fall once Huawei’s next-generation computing infrastructure was ready at scale.
The recent price cut is expected to intensify competition across the AI industry, prompting rivals to rethink their pricing strategies as firms fight to attract developers, enterprises and AI-powered apps in a more crowded market.
