A suicide bomber killed at least 35 people and wounded 20 more in a Shiite funeral procession Saturday north of Baghdad. The incident took place at about sunset in the village of Abu Saida near Baqouba, 60 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.
Earlier, a car bomb went off Saturday at a market outside Baghdad killing at least 13 people and injuring 21, while Iraqi police have detained four people in connection with Friday's suicide bombing of two mosques with one man being an apparent third suicide bomber, police said.
The Saturday morning blast took place near the Diyala Bridge area just southeast of the Iraqi capital as dozens of people were shopping at a popular market, said police Col. Nouri Ashour. The victims included five women, he said, according to the AP.
On Friday's blasts, two suicide bombers moved into the Sheikh Murad mosque and the Grand Mosque in the border town of Khanaqin during noon prayers and activated explosives strapped to their bodies, police and survivors said. Death tolls on Saturday ranged from 76, reported by Kurdish officials, to at least 100, provided by police.
A security officer in Khanaqin conveyed four people were detained following the attacks, three were strangers who came from outside the town and the fourth was a third suicide bomber who was found near the scene.
