Iranian President Mohammad Khatami condemned the recent assassination attempt on his Turkmen counterpart, Saparmurat Niyazov, according to IRNA Sunday.
During a phone conversation Saturday night between the two presidents, Khatami expressed relief that the assassination attempt had failed and firmly condemned any kind of terrorism.
Unidentified masked gunmen opened fire last Monday on Niyazov's motorcade in Ashgabat but the Turkmen president was not in the motorcade. (Albawaba.com)
