Iranian Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in Syria on Monday to head a high-ranking political delegation in the first-ever official Iranian ministerial visit to the country.

Mottaki is will meet with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad  during his one-day stay. The two are expected to discuss issues of regional stability and relations with Israel.

The minister said that regional cooperation would ensure that "enemy nations" would not achieve their evil objectives, according to IRNA. He added that the fact that US interests were in the service of Israel further demonstrated the need for such regional cooperation.

Mottaki conveyed warm regards from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to his Syrian counterpart, and referred to the period of friendly relations enjoyed between the two countries.
