ALBAWABA - Iran thwarted a drone attack targeting its defense ministry complex in Isfahan, south of the capital Tehran.

Iranian defense systems shot down a drone on Tuesday night that targeted the defense ministry compound in Isfahan in the center of the country, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

It said the drone attempted to strike at the Commander of the Faithful, English for emir al-Muminin. No damage was caused to the site because the attack was foiled.

A military facility near Isfahan was also attacked by drones in February, but the air defense systems thwarted the attack, culminating in a limited material damage.

At the time, Tehran pointed the finger at Israel. In recent years, Iran accused Israel of carrying out covert operations on its soil, allegedly targeting nuclear facilities to undermine Tehran's fledging nuclear weapons program.
