The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement Saturday on the renewed threats "hurled by US and Zionist regime officials" against Iran, and asked the UN Security Council to act on such threats with appropriate measures.
According to IRNA, the statement also pointed to recent remarks made by US Vice- President Dick Cheney and israeli officials on the possibility of using force against Iran, and said "the Iranian nation and the world at large asks the Security Council how many sessions it has held to investigate and act on similar threats against UN member states and whether it has passed appropriate resolutions condemning these threats."
The statement was issued hours after the UN Security Council condemned recent remarks by Iran's president to wipe off Israel.
The Iranian statement called on the UN Security Council to condemn the "repeated crimes" of the Zionist regime, in particular, the "massacre and terror of the Palestinians."
"If the Security Council is not able to redress the grievances of the Palestinian nation for whatever reason, it should at least pass the appropriate resolution to condemn the repeated commission, particularly in recent days, of crimes such as the bombardment of Palestinian areas and houses and the massacre of innocent women and children upon the clear order of this terrorist regime."
The statement further said that the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories has been clearly stated before the 60th session of the UN General Assembly by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to its obligations under the United Nations Charter and has never used or threatened to use force against any other state, it added.
