Iran has proposed Russia to participate in the construction of several more nuclear power plants.
"We have plans for building, alongside the Bushehr nuclear power plant several others having a total capacity of 6,000 megawatts, and we are inviting Russia to take this opportunity," Iran's Deputy President, chief of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Gholam Reza Agazade told Itar Tass on Wednesday.
Agazade is currently paying an official visit to Moscow. According to him, his meetings with Russian officials were "a success and very encouraging" for Iran, because Russia confirmed its readiness to continue its cooperation in the nuclear field.
Agazade said there were unclear aspects of the return of spent nuclear fuel to Russia.
"This issue was discussed with the Russian side at all levels. Moscow and Teheran will soon announce a date when they will sign an additional protocol on the return of spent nuclear fuel to the inter-government agreement on cooperation and the schedule of supplies of the first consignment of fuel assemblies for the start-up of the nuclear reactor at Bushehr," he was quoted as saying.
He also announced that 700 Iranian specialists had undergone instruction at Russian nuclear facilities.
"For the first several months after the launch of the Bushehr reactor Iranian nuclear scientists and power producers will be working side by side with Russian specialists to accumulate the necessary experience," he said. (Albawaba.com)
