Iran and Oman concluded Sunday their Joint of Economic Commission meeting in Tehran by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Iranian Ministers of Industry and Mines Eshaq Jahangir and Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry and Mines Maqbul Ali Sultan signed the MoU, said Iran’s official news agency (IRNA).

Jahangiri was quoted by the agency as saying that the two countries agreed on promotion of mutual investments.

He added that the agreement also called for forming a committee to oversee the exports of Iranian copper to Oman.

Jahangiri expressed optimism that Iranian companies will have a more visible presence in technical and engineering projects in Oman in the future.

The trade exchanges between the two countries reached by the year end of 2000 a sum of 213 million, marking a considerable growth.

Citing the official report which was released recently by Oman's Ministry of Commerce and Industries, the exports of Iran to the Sultanate in 2000 exceeded $60.8 million showing an increase of 53.8 percent compared to the figures for 1999.

The total value of Iran's export to Oman in 1998 and 1999 amounted to $33 million and $40 million respectively – Albawaba.com
