Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said that establishment of joint international uranium enrichment facilities is just a proposal brought up by Iran to end the concerns of Europe regarding Tehran's nuclear development.
The statement was included in an exclusive interview with the Swiss daily, Neue Zuercher Zeitung (New Zurich Times), which was published on Wednesday. "Iran proposed establishing a joint international uranium enrichment facilities in the territory of Iran with participation of Europe. Even Russia's offer for conducting the feasibility studies on such a project was accepted.
"But through formation of uranium world bank the American officials are willing to control the whole issue themselves," he added.
The UNSC secretary said that as long as only US allies are authorized to have full access to nuclear facilities and others are deprived of such a right, Iran will have no guarantee on meeting its relevant demands. "Besides, Iran's nuclear program is quite transparent and not complicated, while it is wholly conducted in close cooperation and coordination with the UN nuclear watchdog.
"Despite such cooperation, we are accused that in future we may misuse nuclear technology for non-peaceful purposes," he added.
He also said that there are no discrepancies between Shiites and Sunnis, given their peaceful coexistence. "Such issues are exaggerated by the factions and groups which are interested in such discords. Meanwhile, Iran has always been doing its best towards development of solidarity among Muslims."
