Iran has succeeded in manufacturing its first-ever intelligent robot, according to Karim Rahmani, a member of the board of instructors at the Electricity and Computer Research Academy.

“The robot can be utilized in visual faculties, industrial production lines, atomic power plants, centers which are hazardous to workers, as well as in the communications and industrial sectors," Rahmani, whose academy is affiliated with Iran's Scientific and Industries Research Organization, told the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).

''The robot has been design to move from point A to point B and is able to make out obstacles and change direction to pass them, if necessary,'' he said.

The main components of the robot include eyes, brain and mechanical parts, he said.

He said the eyes of the robot consist of two layers, a C.C.D. camera in the first layer and detector sensor (ultrasonic) in the second one. Laser sensors will be used in the construction of such a system, he added.

A Pentium 500 acts as the brain of the robot, running with the help of a DC engine equipped with special drives all manufactured domestically, he added.

The smart robot runs on Windows and MS DOS systems, and two types of digital processors have been used to execute instructions as well as respond to ultrasonic sensors, he said – Albawaba.com
