Iran Wednesday described as "totally baseless" a media report that Iranian military bases were going to be used by India for operations against Pakistan.
"The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran under no condition gives permission to the armed forces of foreign countries to use its land, space and ports," a release from the Iranian Embassy in India said.
A website on defence news had reported that New Delhi and Teheran had signed an agreement under which India has been given the right to use Iranian bases for operations against Pakistan.
Iranian President, Mohammed Khatami, who was in India recently, had held talks with the Indian leadership on various issues and the two sides had signed a historic Delhi Declaration which included cooperation on strategic matters.
Meanwhile, Israel is denying a report that it intends to train thousands of Indian troops in counter-terrorism measures.
A report in the Press Trust of India news agency on Sunday said Israel would train some 3,000 Indian soldiers in groups to fight Islamic militants in Kashmir. Indian defense ministry officials were quoted as saying that a delegation would be sent to Israel next week to discuss the issue.
The report also said that Israel had signed a $30-million agreement with India to provide advanced light weapons systems. (Albawaba.com)
