Vision-X Dubai 2006, the 7th Optical and Ophthalmic Exhibition and Conference, welcomed 109 foreign exhibitors to this year’s edition today, along with visitors from over 20 countries.
Previously known as Optical Middle East, Vision-X Dubai ran as a biennial event since 1994 and has steadily built a region-wide reputation for bringing together the best in product manufacturers, ophthalmologists and eye-care specialists.
In 2006, this regional focus has supported increased growth and encouraged demand from companies from Europe, North America and beyond.
Among the many highlights of this year’s event is the Middle East debut of MYKITA, Europe’s hottest new eyewear brand created by the award winning designer duo Philipp Haffmans and Harald Gottschling in Berlin, Germany.
Other international groups praised the organiser for its support.
"Vision-X Dubai 2006 has been fantastic, with the German participation being the biggest to date," said Peter Frankenstein, Manager of Consumer Optics & Spokesman for SPECTARIS, the German Industry Association for Optical, Medical and Mechatronical Technologies.
"I am especially pleased about the volume of business that has been generated with buyers even coming from outside the Middle East, like Pakistan and India. I have been told by my fellow exhibitors, from across the German pavillion, that because of the success they have seen this year, they will definitely be coming back for 2007," added Frankenstein.
In 2006, a total of 143 exhibitors from 24 countries are exhibiting – including those from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India, Germany, Korea and the USA – gathered at the trade and specialist event, which ran from 12 to 14 February 2006. This is a total increase of 14 percent in the number of participating countries from the last event in 2004.
“The international profile of exhibitors at Vision-X Dubai reflects the surge in demand for eyewear and eye care products in the region over recent years. With a fast-growing population and high demand for both medical and fashion eyewear, the Middle East market as a whole is worth an estimated US$2 billion,” said organiser Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre.
Vision-X Dubai showcased a range of high-end international designer brands, including the debut of new frames from Balmain, Kenneth Cole, Marie Claire, Renoma and Lara D.
