Hong Kong was hit by more floods Sunday after five straight days of torrential rains that swamped outlying areas and saw rescue helicopters plucking villagers from rooftops.
By noon, more than 30 floods had been reported across the territory, mostly in northern villages where residents were forced to higher ground or wade through the knee-deep waters, the Hong Kong Observatory said.
Streets in villages in the New Territories near the border with China were washed out by the muddy waters, and officials went door-to-door to help evacuate some of the sick and elderly.
Hong Kong has had a week of unusually stormy weather with some 300 millimetres (12 inches) of rain in the hardest-hit areas, an Observatory official said.
A forecast further three days of rain would mean more floods, he said.
The rains have caused a total 15 landslides across the territory, but no fatalities have been reported, government officials said -- HONG KONG (AFP)
