The Lebanese Hizbollah movement on Monday denied Israeli press reports that Iranian intelligence forces had deployed along the border to gather information in preparation for attacks against the Jewish state, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
Israel’s Yediot Ahronot daily reported Monday that dozens of Iranian Revolutionary Guards arrived in Beirut a month ago for briefings with members of Hizbollah.
Yediot, quoting a report on Israel’s Channel 2 television, said the Iranian intelligence agents, being more professional than their Hizbollah counterparts, had decided to check the situation on the ground for themselves and devise possible plans of action.
The newspaper claimed that the Iranian agents had established an observation post on Sheikh Abbad Hill, facing a new Israeli outpost.
“From time to time, the Israeli press works on fabricating baseless news,” Hizbollah said in a statement, cited by the paper.
“We have learned from the Israeli enemy that whenever they want to pave the way for an [act of] aggression they document such lies.”
UNIFEL sources in the south also dismissed the report.
“If anything, it’s a case of Hizbollah feeding the Iranians information, not the other way around,” a UNIFIL officer told the paper, on condition of anonymity – Albawaba.com
