Hizbollah guerrillas set at least one Israeli military vehicle on fire Wednesday evening when they pounded the position of Blat just inside the western sector of the Israeli-occupied zone in south Lebanon, security services in the zone said.
They were unable to say immediately whether there had been any casualties.
Lebanese police said fires had broken out when the Shiite Muslim group fired 10 Katyusha rockets and 13 mortars at the position.
Hizbollah's armed wing, the Islamic Resistance, issued a statement in Beirut claiming responsibility for the attack, saying it had hit the target full on. It reported a "large fire" inside the position.
The police said there had been about a dozen operations against the occupied zone since dawn on Wednesday, some targeting positions of Israel's proxy South Lebanon Army, but most aimed at positions held by the Israeli army itself.
The pro-Syrian Shiite Amal movement said it had carried out four of them, while eight others were claimed by Hizbollah.
Hizbollah, which spearheads efforts to drive Israeli troops out of Lebanon, has said it is determined to continue its operations until the last "humiliated" Israeli soldier has left, despite Israel's announcement that it will withdraw all its forces by July 7 -- TYRE, Lebanon (AFP)
