Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for attending today for this important announcement relating to the Gulf petrochemicals and chemicals industry.
This morning, eight petrochemicals and chemicals companies operating in Gulf countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding, and in so doing created the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association – or simply GPCA for short.
GPCA is a non profit association and the first petrochemicals and chemicals association in this region. GPCA will be shortly opening here in Dubai.
GPCA has been principally organized to identify, advance and manage the common interests of its members by promoting the role of the petrochemicals and chemicals industry in the Gulf region, and outside where appropriate.
I believe the future of our industry is bright for those who pursue their goals with a shared sense of purpose… and resolute execution of well-thought plans and programs. GPCA will help us achieve this vision.
Areas in which GPCA will be involved include the environment, safety and regulation, logistics, education, standardization and the promotion of the petrochemicals and chemicals downstream industry.
Key aims of the Association include acting as an industry spokesperson, promoting mutual cooperation between members and bodies related to the industry, organizing conferences and encouraging new scientific research.
The Association will also cooperate with similar organizations outside the Gulf Region. These include EPCA in Europe, NPRA in the USA, APLA in South America, and APIC in Asia.
It is no secret that serious cooperation between the region’s major producers has not previously developed according to our aspirations. I believe GPCA addresses this deficiency and in turn will play a major role in fostering intra cooperation.
