A Yemeni man arrested in the wake of the September 11 attacks in the United States was sentenced by a German court Monday to 26 months in jail for arms possession and other charges.

The 27-year-old was sentenced to two years and two months in prison after being found guilty of arms possession, residing illegally in Germany, falsifying documents and fraud.

Prosecutors dropped an investigation into his possible links with a terrorist organization while the trial was under way, according to AFP. The man was carrying two weapons when he was detained, and police found false identity papers and maps of several large German cities during a search of his home.

The arrest followed revelations that several of the September 11 hijackers lived and studied in Germany. (Albawaba.com)
