ALBAWABA- At least five people were killed and nine others injured on Wednesday when an explosion ripped through a weapons depot in the town of Kafr Takharim in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, according to local authorities.

The Internal Security Command in Idlib said the blast occurred in a warehouse storing rockets and ammunition, triggered by work underway in a nearby workshop. The force of the explosion left several victims trapped under the rubble, with rescue teams continuing operations into the evening.

State media also confirmed the deaths, noting that both the dead and the wounded were recovered from the debris as emergency crews worked to secure the area.

Wednesday’s explosion is the latest in a string of similar incidents in Idlib. Poorly stored munitions have caused more than ten depot explosions across Syria over the past year, including a blast last August on the outskirts of Idlib that killed four people at a war-remnants storage site.

Idlib, long a stronghold of opposition and jihadist factions, has experienced repeated explosions inside faction facilities, though authorities rarely specify the causes.
