Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) met Saturday in the Saudi capital for a semi-annual consultative summit, news agencies reported. The meeting was opened under United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who holds the current GCC presidency.

The meeting is expected to discuss Iran's nuclear development, an issue that worries Teheran's neighbours.

Upon his arrival, the Bahraini king noted that as gathering will enable GCC leaders to face regional and global changes, the current developments makes it an urgent must for them to promote their work according to clear strategies in keeping with future requirements. He stressed "the importance of reinforcing GCC cooperation through quick and practical means that highlight the GCC citizenship which is a common GCC objective."
